Sophia's 3rd Birthday!

One of my son's friends, Sophia, turned 3 recently.  She had her birthday at one of those indoor gymnastic spots for toddlers and young children.  My son LOVES those birthday parties.  He literally runs around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Anyway, her mom wanted me to do the cupcakes for the adults and children.  Sophia loves rainbow colors, sprinkles, and DumDums so I made cupcakes just for her!

These with the DumDums are supposed to be like balloons sticking out of the cupcakes.  I saw the idea on Pinterest and those it was too cute.  The kids would like that better than fondant toppers anyway.

I did make some more adult-friendly cupcakes too.  I designed these on my computer and just printed them on paper.  Not edible but still cute. :)

Looking back at these photos just makes me smile.  The order itself was so fun to do because I know Sophia (& we love her and her family) but also because everything is so bright and colorful and everyone had a blast.

Happy 3rd Birthday Sophia!  We loved celebrating with you!!

Lilly's 2nd Birthday

The sister of this birthday girl was turning 2 and having a cupcake themed birthday party!  Her mom had already found her adorable outfit and needed a cake to match.

Lilly's Birthday Outfit!

Her mom wanted a cupcake cake with some cookies to go with.

I loved how it all turned out and how the cake matched Lilly's outfit.

However, this order had a minor setback.  :(  I got a call about 30 minutes after it was picked up that the top of the cupcake on the cake had fallen off!!!!  I was mortified.  Truly so sad for Lilly, Lilly's mom, and the cute cake.

Unfortunately, I couldn't remake the whole thing again because I didn't have the time.  I was able to make a small smash-size cake in the same design along with some cupcakes.

Smaller version of the original cake.

That was definitely a first (and hopefully last!) and I'm so sorry that happened to Lilly's cake.  I think she still had a pretty good birthday though (and she probably won't remember!) :)

Happy Birthday Lilly!

Sweet Baby Dedication

This is the second cake I've done for a new friend, whom I met through an old friend.  She has GREAT taste and picks out really fun & pretty cakes.

She was dedicating her daughter and needed and sweet cake for the party afterwards.  She sent me a handful ideas but I fell in love with one.  Here's the original photo she found online:

Don't you just love it?

Her colors were going to be similar but instead of black, grey.  I decided to make the ribbon grey with white polka dots, but still stick with the blush fondant on the cake.

Here's the cake I did.  It's pretty similar, right?

This is actually not all cake.  Again, my friend loved the look of the original cake but didn't need all that cake; so the middle layer is actually just styrofoam.  The whole concept of part of the cake being fake is really popular for weddings, but I'm starting to get more and more requests for cakes really bigger than what the people need and therefore needing part of it to be fake.   An additional bonus about half the cake being fake is that it makes it really light!  :)

I love how it turned out and I hope that sweet baby had a beautiful dedication!

Thanks Sarah for the order!

Baby Hayley

I've had several people tell me how much they like my Ruffles, Burlap, and Bunting Banner cake I did back in August.  And Lindsay was one of them!  She needed a cake for her cousin's baby shower and she wanted a very similar cake with minor tweaks.

I loved the cake the first time, and I loved making it again!

Happy Baby Shower!  Thanks for the order, Lindsay!

Baby Shower for Baby Kate

Y'all, I might have a new favorite.

Last weekend, my friend had her baby shower and I got to make the cake!  I love doing orders for people I know.  Knowing them helps me tailor the cake design to something I know they will like.  But for this order, a friend of hers picked out the design.  And I'm so glad she did because she found a really cool cake idea online.

Here's what she picked:

So cool right?!

We changed a few of the colors to coordinate better with the shower, and I came up with some new button designs using molds I already had.

Here it is:

I love all the different buttons cascading down the side of the cake.  It's too cute!

I added some shimmer to the bottom layer to add a bit of gold to the fondant.  I also used edible gold shimmer dust on some of the buttons to make them look like gold.

I think the best photo is the one I caught all set up at the shower.

Happy Baby Shower Baby Kate!  We can't wait to meet you!

Pink, Sparkly, Glittery Cupcakes

I have become extremely busy overnight with orders!  I'm so grateful to all the people who keep spreading my name.  Word-of-mouth advertising is the best and it's working!!

One of the most recent orders was through a friend of a friend of a friend (see word-of-mouth IS working!) and she wanted pink, sparkly, glittery cupcakes for her daughter's first birthday.  If that wasn't girly enough, she also mentioned her daughter wore pearls in her first birthday photo shoot.  So, the order was really for pink, sparkly, glittery, and pearly cupcakes. :)  How fun is that?!?

I knew this would be a very fun order.

Ta-Da!!!

Pink. Sparkles. Glitter. Pearls.  I think we got that covered. :)

Happy First Birthday Kathryn!!
