Penelope's Baptism

Sweet Baby Penelope was recently baptized and I did her treats for the reception afterward.  Her mom ordered a cake and cookies to match the invitation she had made.

I purchased the sugar flower and cross at a local bake shop here in Houston.

The cookies were eventually packaged up but here's what they looked like before they were bagged.

She also ordered a small cake for her grandma's birthday.

Congratulations Baby Penelope!

He or She? What will it be?

I got my second gender reveal order of the year and this one was a bit special.  The customer didn't know what she was having and I was the one to open the envelope from her anatomy scan from the doctor.  I can't tell you how fun it was to find out what she was having.  This is her first child and the excitement of it all is just too fun!

The invitation she sent over.

She wanted the inside of the cake to reveal whether it was a girl or boy.  Her colors were teal, pink, and grey.  I didn't get a chance to photograph the inside (because you would have had to cut into it after it was all finished to see what I did) but she said she loved it.

So what do you think?  He or she?

The cupcakes had to be in silver foil liners because I didn't want to ruin any part of the surprise by pink or teal accidentally showing through.   The bows and mustaches are both edible and the cupcake toppers on the sticks are reversible.  Here you can see both sides.

And here is the cake.  She sent over several ideas she liked from Pinterest and I just came up with something from there and the invitation.

So?  Have you guessed?

I made the cake so that when you cut into it, you will see colored polka dots like this example I found on Pinterest:

Except, instead of rainbow-ish colors, it was TEAL polka dots!!!!  It's a BOY!

Congratulations Tuohy Family!

Office Baby Shower

I received an order for an office baby shower for a baby girl.  This customer has ordered from me before and always picks out adorable ideas.  She's a very detail oriented person, so her orders usually take me a little more time to make but I always love the finished product.

The cookies before they were individually packaged.

The cupcakes.  The shoes and bows were 100% edible.

Thanks for the order Julie!

Lilly's 2nd Birthday

The sister of this birthday girl was turning 2 and having a cupcake themed birthday party!  Her mom had already found her adorable outfit and needed a cake to match.

Lilly's Birthday Outfit!

Her mom wanted a cupcake cake with some cookies to go with.

I loved how it all turned out and how the cake matched Lilly's outfit.

However, this order had a minor setback.  :(  I got a call about 30 minutes after it was picked up that the top of the cupcake on the cake had fallen off!!!!  I was mortified.  Truly so sad for Lilly, Lilly's mom, and the cute cake.

Unfortunately, I couldn't remake the whole thing again because I didn't have the time.  I was able to make a small smash-size cake in the same design along with some cupcakes.

Smaller version of the original cake.

That was definitely a first (and hopefully last!) and I'm so sorry that happened to Lilly's cake.  I think she still had a pretty good birthday though (and she probably won't remember!) :)

Happy Birthday Lilly!

Back from Holiday!

I've been really enjoying my time off work.  I haven't been doing anything- no emails, no photos, no baking (except for personal consumption), and no cleaning TONS of dishes from baking!  It's been so nice.

I left on my holiday break without posting all of my orders from the end of November and December though.  So here's to a little catch-up!

First up, is a very small, yet very adorable, baby shower cake for an old college friend of my husband.

It's iced in buttercream with a small, white fondant onesie on top.  Simple and cute!

Thanks for the order Kim!

The same weekend, I had an order for a first birthday for a little girl.  The mom saw this post from my blog and really loved the cake.  So, she wanted me to recreate that with a little tweaking and then make a smash cake for her daughter.  Here they are:

I think this is the third cake I've done like this and I still love it.  I love this version of it too.  The added aqua works really well with it.

Happy 1st Birthday sweet Adeline!

Princess Allie's Royal Birthday

A mom in my Mom's bible study group sent over this cute invitation for her daughter's birthday.  I've smudged the private info out because I wanted to share how cute it is!

She wanted me to make a cake that would coordinate with the invitation.  The graphics are too cute so I knew I would have fun with this one. :)

I made the hills out of green modeling chocolate and added the glittery flowers.  I also made the castle from the invitation out of fondant.

I made the crown for the top.  Every princess needs a crown!

And here's the whole cake!  The princess on the side of the cake is just made out of fondant and I used an edible marker to make the eyes and smile.
If you see the princess on the side of the cake, you might see she's holding a star wand.  It was so cute when the birthday girl came to pick up her cake because she had a star wand in her hand.  It was perfect for her.

Baby Baptism

I've been getting many baptism cake orders recently.  It's probably because it seems all my friends are having babies!!!

My good friend, Kelly, who has ordered from me too many times to count had her sweet baby boy, Brooks, baptized a few weekends ago.  She was having a small family gathering and wanted something small to help celebrate this beautiful occasion.

Classic Vanilla cake covered in white fondant wrapped with an ivory ribbon.  The baby blue cross is made out of fondant and lightly dusted with some shimmer dust.  The plaque reads "God Bless Brooks" with the date of the baptism on the side.
I love baptism cakes.  I love their simple designs.  Not because it is less work for me; in fact, it's a little more stressful to get everything just perfect because simple cakes show far more imperfections than busier and more decorated cakes.  But because they are classic cakes.

And here's my other order from the same weekend.  I loved how Brooks' cake turned out, so I just made another one in baby pink for Baby Kakie (which is a nickname for the little girl).  The customer wanted a square cake instead of round though.
Congratulations Brooks and Kakie!

Swan Lake Birthday

Somehow I have been doing this sweet little girl's birthday cakes for THREE years now!

This year, she was having a Swan Lake Ballet birthday party.  Her mom found some adorable ideas online and shared them with me.  I recreated everything she asked for, which included these ballet slipper cookies:

I cut out the shape of the ballet shoe using a template I made from cardboard.  Then I iced the slipper part and let that dry.  After that, I made pink strips of fondant for the laces.  And finally, I tied a pink ribbon in the hole I punched out prior to baking.

She also ordered tutu cupcakes.  I didn't get a great picture of them all together, but I got one.  She ordered these wrappers ahead of time and just had them shipped to me.  Unfortunately the wrappers were a little too tall and concealed the dress part of the tutu, but they were still gorgeous around the cupcake.

This was the cake she picked out.  In the original example that she found online, the ballet shoes were made out of sugar; but to save her some $, I found this ballet slipper ornament at a local craft store in the christmas section.  It worked!

The square bottom part of the cake is also not real cake.  Like Julia's first birthday cake I just did, the cake her mom wanted was going to feed more than she needed so I just made part of it fake.  You can't even tell!

Thanks Regan for the order and Happy Swan Lake Birthday!!!

Minnie

Avery, one of my son's little friend, turned TWO this past week and she was having a Minnie Mouse birthday celebration!

It was a small, play-date get together so I didn't have to make very many treats.  I went ahead and took the extra time I had to make some fondant pink bows for the Minnie Mouse cupcakes and cookies.  I loved the dimension it gave to the cookies.

I love Minnie Mouse cupcakes.  I think they're too cute.

We had a great time celebrating sweet little Avery!  Happy Birthday!

Baby Hayley

I've had several people tell me how much they like my Ruffles, Burlap, and Bunting Banner cake I did back in August.  And Lindsay was one of them!  She needed a cake for her cousin's baby shower and she wanted a very similar cake with minor tweaks.

I loved the cake the first time, and I loved making it again!

Happy Baby Shower!  Thanks for the order, Lindsay!

Tutu Cute!

Sutton is turning TWO and she is TUTU cute!  Cute theme.  Cute little girl.  It all works. :)

Sutton is our sweet little neighbor who had a birthday last weekend.  Her mom picked out an adorable (and perfectly fitting) theme for her party and asked me to help with the desserts.  She showed me a few ideas she liked online, and then I just ran with it.

I knew she was making tutus for the girls and bowties for the boys to wear at the party.  So this is what I came up with; cupcake stand and all!

We had bowtie butter cookies, and a varying assortment of tutu cupcakes!

I just love these.

Pink, purple, and a little more pink pretty much sums up the order.

Happy Birthday Sutton!  We had so much fun celebrating YOU!

Baby Shower for Baby Kate

Y'all, I might have a new favorite.

Last weekend, my friend had her baby shower and I got to make the cake!  I love doing orders for people I know.  Knowing them helps me tailor the cake design to something I know they will like.  But for this order, a friend of hers picked out the design.  And I'm so glad she did because she found a really cool cake idea online.

Here's what she picked:

So cool right?!

We changed a few of the colors to coordinate better with the shower, and I came up with some new button designs using molds I already had.

Here it is:

I love all the different buttons cascading down the side of the cake.  It's too cute!

I added some shimmer to the bottom layer to add a bit of gold to the fondant.  I also used edible gold shimmer dust on some of the buttons to make them look like gold.

I think the best photo is the one I caught all set up at the shower.

Happy Baby Shower Baby Kate!  We can't wait to meet you!

Pink, Sparkly, Glittery Cupcakes

I have become extremely busy overnight with orders!  I'm so grateful to all the people who keep spreading my name.  Word-of-mouth advertising is the best and it's working!!

One of the most recent orders was through a friend of a friend of a friend (see word-of-mouth IS working!) and she wanted pink, sparkly, glittery cupcakes for her daughter's first birthday.  If that wasn't girly enough, she also mentioned her daughter wore pearls in her first birthday photo shoot.  So, the order was really for pink, sparkly, glittery, and pearly cupcakes. :)  How fun is that?!?

I knew this would be a very fun order.

Ta-Da!!!

Pink. Sparkles. Glitter. Pearls.  I think we got that covered. :)

Happy First Birthday Kathryn!!

Burlap, Ruffles, and Bunting Banners

I'm going to let the pictures do the talking here.  This was, by far, one of my most favorite cakes I've done.  It's so sweet and classy, yet trendy at the same time!

I also made some cookies to go with the cake for the wedding shower.

Not the best picture quality, but oh well.

LOVE these.  I should probably make a few extra for me. :)

All packaged up and ready to go!

Congratulations Kim!  I hope you have a beautiful wedding and an even better marriage.
