Ladies Who Never Lunch

I love this new job of mine.  I get the opportunity to meet many different people who are searching for the perfect treat to go with some sort of celebration they are having.  It's always happy times and that helps make this job fun.  And this post is no different.

I've recently met Katie Mehnert, a new friend and customer, who, very strangely, found me through Pinterest.  It was an interesting conversation we had on the phone, "And can I ask, how did you hear about me?"  With me expecting to hear, "Oh, through so-and-so."  Rather, she discovered me while Pinterest searching for treats for her daughter's upcoming train birthday.   Pinterest is huge and the odds of finding someone that is only about 20 miles away is impressive.  It was meant to be!

After chatting on the phone about her daughter's birthday, she mentioned she hosts an annual luncheon for ladies who don't lunch in December and that she might want a cake.  The title itself is intriguing, let alone the idea.  You can read more about it here (along with many other inspiring posts that will suck you in), but the main idea is to get working women, specifically in the oil and gas industry, together to have lunch with each other for some connectivity and fellowship.

This year, Katie had close to 75 women at her home for lunch!  There was going to be a plethora of food and desserts so I didn't make anything too huge.   I focused on detail and making it girly.

The colors of the party were red and black.  I made the high heel out of fondant and modeling chocolate.  The rhinestones are from a trim I found at Hobby Lobby.   Every part of the shoe is edible except the rhinestones.

I must point out the quote on the cake, which was the theme of this year's luncheon.

"Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the Devil says, "Oh crap, she's up.""

Isn't that just great?  I love it.

Katie had these cute little bags with stemless wine glasses inside with the quote etched onto the glass.

And the napkins to tie in with the cake.
Thank you Katie for the order and I hope you all enjoyed your lunch!

Rainbow Birthday

Sweet Ella loves rainbows.  And I love her rainbow cake!

Ella's mom actually found this cake idea in a magazine, took a picture of it, and then sent me the idea.  See below. :)

She didn't want it tiered though, so I just made a large enough cake to feed the guests.  She also wanted some clouds around the bottom and "Happy Birthday" written in white icing.  Check it out!

She also ordered some cookies to go as favors.  She found this ideas on Pinterest.  Cute huh?

Happy 4th Birthday Ella!  Thanks for the order Dominique!

Princess Allie's Royal Birthday

A mom in my Mom's bible study group sent over this cute invitation for her daughter's birthday.  I've smudged the private info out because I wanted to share how cute it is!

She wanted me to make a cake that would coordinate with the invitation.  The graphics are too cute so I knew I would have fun with this one. :)

I made the hills out of green modeling chocolate and added the glittery flowers.  I also made the castle from the invitation out of fondant.

I made the crown for the top.  Every princess needs a crown!

And here's the whole cake!  The princess on the side of the cake is just made out of fondant and I used an edible marker to make the eyes and smile.
If you see the princess on the side of the cake, you might see she's holding a star wand.  It was so cute when the birthday girl came to pick up her cake because she had a star wand in her hand.  It was perfect for her.

Ally & Friends

This order was for a new friend and customer whose daughter was turning 3!  She was having a train party at a park downtown and wanted some Thomas the Train treats.
I made this custom stand to hold the cake on top, and two dozen cupcakes for on the bottom.
I love the little train tracks going around the cake.

And she also ordered some butter cookies to go with it.  This was my first time doing Thomas as a cookie and I'll admit,  he's pretty hard.  There's so much detail that you want to get just right.  I only did a few in the batch though because I love the variety of train and railroad theme.

Happy Birthday Ally!  Thanks for the order Katie!

Baby Baptism

I've been getting many baptism cake orders recently.  It's probably because it seems all my friends are having babies!!!

My good friend, Kelly, who has ordered from me too many times to count had her sweet baby boy, Brooks, baptized a few weekends ago.  She was having a small family gathering and wanted something small to help celebrate this beautiful occasion.

Classic Vanilla cake covered in white fondant wrapped with an ivory ribbon.  The baby blue cross is made out of fondant and lightly dusted with some shimmer dust.  The plaque reads "God Bless Brooks" with the date of the baptism on the side.
I love baptism cakes.  I love their simple designs.  Not because it is less work for me; in fact, it's a little more stressful to get everything just perfect because simple cakes show far more imperfections than busier and more decorated cakes.  But because they are classic cakes.

And here's my other order from the same weekend.  I loved how Brooks' cake turned out, so I just made another one in baby pink for Baby Kakie (which is a nickname for the little girl).  The customer wanted a square cake instead of round though.
Congratulations Brooks and Kakie!

Wedding Shower for a Doctor Couple

I did this order back in the beginning of November as well.

This customer was hosting a wedding shower for a couple who were on the path to becoming doctors.  The shower decor was white pumpkins and burlap, but the hostess wanted to include each of their alma maters as well as some doctor elements.  She sent me over several ideas she found online and we picked and chose from that.

Here's the cute little cake.

Here are the cookies.  How cool are these?!  It wasn't my idea- someone else has done this on Pinterest, but it was fun to recreate them!!

And here are the cupcakes.  The Baylor cupcakes were Key Lime flavor and the A&M cupcakes were red velvet.  My kitchen smelled AMAZING!!

I got to see a few photos of the decor for the shower and the hostess did an amazing job.  She is very talented and I was so excited all the treats had a cute place to go on her table. :)

This was a fun order with a lot of different elements.

Thanks for the order Karen!!!

Shayla's Baby Shower

A family friend of ours just had the sweetest baby a few weeks ago.  I had the honor of making her baby shower cake.

The theme was giraffes and baby blue.  I wanted to make something simple and adorable.

Isn't it cute!?

The cake is covered in fondant and topped with a giraffe I made out of modeling chocolate and fondant.  The bottom is real ribbon.

I also made giraffe cookies to go as the favors.

I love this little guy.

Welcome Baby M!

Happy Birthday Justin

My brother-in-law had a birthday back in November and we had a small celebration here at home.

He's a big A&M and Texans fan, so I made a few cupcakes for him.  I made the toppers by cutting out fondant circles and then hand-painting the Texans toro on them and writing on a few of them. They turned out pretty cute!

Happy Birthday Justin!

Happy Thanksgiving, two weeks late!

The holidays are a busy, busy time and yes, I'm about one month behind on getting posts up on the blog. :(  I've been doing some really fun orders lately and I don't want to miss out on highlighting them.

Here are some Thanksgiving cookies I made for a neighbor and a second batch for my family because I loved them so much.

I love the little turkeys. :)

I also made these Thanksgiving cupcakes for a different neighbor with the left over batter I had from another order.  They were delightfully excited to have some yummy fall cupcakes at their doorstep.
